# How justice works

### <mark style="color:orange;">**A vast field of intervention**</mark>

Going against the laws that govern the operation of Oniverse can have multiple consequences. These "laws" can be envisaged as two layers of norms, most of the time superimposed: the top layer - legal in the broadest sense of the term (Oniverse laws, national, supra or international norms) - is systematically backed up by a narrative layer (Oniverse laws, conditions of use, contractual provisions).

The potential field of intervention of Oniverse Justice is thus vast. This Justice can be called upon automatically or not, in the event of disputes between different Oniverse players, or between Oniverse players and external players. It can also be called upon by Oniverse's administration, in order to judge facts that potentially contravene Oniverse's laws and, more broadly, its ethical standards.

### <mark style="color:orange;">**An incentive-based procedure**</mark>

Oniverse Justice has many of the characteristics of a decentralized dispute resolution system, contributing to its accessibility and efficiency.

The operation of the Oniverse Justice system is designed to offer genuine professional and financial opportunities, by mobilizing the expertise and work of the Oniverse community.

It is part of Oniverse's integrated economy, in that the judging panels called upon to decide the disputes submitted for their appraisal are made up of jurors selected and remunerated according to a weighting system and from dedicated pools. These selection-remuneration mechanisms are partly based on the holding of (non-transferable) assets of competence, the acquisition of which will be favored by the respective content of the jurors' participation in the decisions rendered.

Nevertheless, unlike certain decentralized dispute resolution solutions, Oniverse's jurisdictional system is not based solely on economic incentives and game theory. It benefits from being integrated into the Oniverse community as a whole. In many cases, it places great emphasis on the interpretation of the standards applied, and therefore relies on a competence and reputation that is not merely statistical or average.

### <mark style="color:orange;">A secure system</mark>

Oniverse justice cannot be perfectly decentralized or automated. Such a system is undoubtedly undesirable, as it would prove incapable of integrating and protecting the aesthetic, poetic, literary and political aspects of Oniverse.

Oniverse's justice system is no less secure thanks to its integration into the blockchain and its partial automation, both in terms of the drawing of lots and the remuneration of jurors, and in terms of the decisions they render.

In certain cases, the use of blockchain also enables the pseudonymity-anonymity of the parties to be respected, and even, depending on the jurisdiction concerned, the automatic execution and publicity of the decision. More traditional or hybrid systems can be used to prevent conflicts of interest or collusion.
